A Prairie Village Bathroom, Warmed From the Ceiling Down

Freestanding tub, wood double vanity, and natural plank ceiling in a Prairie Village bathroom remodel

Most bathrooms get their character from the floor up. This Prairie Village renovation starts overhead, with a tongue and groove natural wood plank ceiling that changes the temperature of the entire room. White walls, crisp tile, and matte black fixtures could read cool on their own. Under that ceiling, they read calm instead.

The room

A freestanding soaking tub sits in the corner beneath a pair of large windows, so the best seat in the house gets the daylight. The floor is laid in a soft hexagon tile, and a white subway tile wainscot wraps the walls, carried cleanly around the window casings.

The vanity is warm wood in a shaker profile with black hardware, topped in white quartz. Above it, a black framed mirror with softened corners is flanked by glass shade sconces, and matte black widespread faucets carry the fixture line through the room. A floor mounted tub filler in the same finish serves the soaking tub without touching a wall.

Why it works

The palette is disciplined: warm wood above and below, white in between, black for punctuation. Nothing shouts. The recessed lighting sits flush in the plank ceiling, the outlets and switches disappear into the white walls, and the tile lines meet the trim where they should. That restraint is what makes a bathroom feel finished rather than decorated.
